The fall depicted in the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo

"Human weakness cannot upset the plans of divine omnipotence. A divine master-builder can work even with falling stones." - Michael Cardinal Von Faulhaber

Read:
Romans 5:12-21
Psalm 51
John 3:16-21

Study:
1) Handouts:
The Mystery of Evil; Original Sin; The Seven Deadly Sins; Temptation; What is Sin?

2) 3MC:
24 – What is Evil?
25 – What is Original Sin?
43 – What are the 7 Capital Sins?
41 – What are Sins?

3) CCC 272-274, 309-314, 374-421, 538-540, 1263-1264, 1426, 1606-1608, 1707, 1849-1876, 2846-2854 (YOUCAT 51, 66-70)

Meditate:
In what ways have I fallen into temptation and am I able to recognize that God provided a way out? In what ways can I strengthen my resolve to both avoid and resist temptation in the future? Have there been any times when I did something I knew was wrong and was able to learn from the consequences? Am I, by my own strength, able to avoid all sins my whole life long? What is God's response to my sin?

Pray:
Lord, I offer you all of me, all that I am and all that I am not.
I offer you every good decision and every regrettable mistake,
every great accomplishment and every missed opportunity,
every divinely inspired gift and every unapplied talent,
every success and every miserable failure.
I offer you all joy and all heartache,
every kindness and every bitterness to be forgotten,
every twinkle in my eye and every tear flowing down my cheek,
every great love and each lost or irrecoverable act of charity.
I offer you every quiet reflective moment and all of the unneeded chaos around me,
all things holy and good in me and all things in need of greater purification.
I give you every joyful memory and every bitter foul pain,
each future moment and every missed opportunity to love,
every kind act and each regrettable harsh word,
all meekness and humility within me and every misplaced prideful thought,
every virtue and every weak vice,
every laugh and all misery mixed with weeping.
I give you every healthy breath and every weakness of mind and body,
every attempt at chastity and every unworthy lustful thought,
every restful repose and every anxious sleepless night.
O Lord, you can have all of me,
the beauty that you've deposited deep within me and the emptiness of my sinful faults.
I love you and am yours completely. Amen.

Imitate:
St. Faustina Kowalska

Apply:
Do I pray for God's help when tempted? Do I pray for God's mercy when I sin? Do I trust in God's grace to help me avoid sin in the future? Do I pray for the conversion of sinners, even those who have offended me?

    AUTHOR:
    Caleb Payne

Caleb began his journey with Christ in 1997. He worked as a Protestant missionary for 8 years in China. It was soon after that he was challenged to consider the Catholic Church. After much prayer and study, he realized he had nothing to protest anymore and was received into full communion with Christ and His Church at the Easter Vigil Mass of 2011. For him the joy and peace that comes with receiving Christ in the Eucharist has turned into an insatiable desire to lead others to this same banquet. Caleb is first a husband, a father of three, and works in the Cortland area as a Registered Nurse. Caleb is a member of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, the Angelic Warfare Confraternity, the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, and is an Evangelist for Saint Paul Street Evangelization. He has Certifications in Thomistic/Catholic Philosophy, Catholic Theology, and Catholic Apologetics through the New Saint Thomas Institute. He is also currently in the Formation for Ministry Program of the Syracuse Diocese.
