Saint Francis in Meditation by Francisco de Zurbarán (1639)
"Only Christ is truly priest. But the others are his ministers." (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Read:
Hebrews 10:12-25
Psalm 110

Luke 22:14-19

46 – What is a Catholic Priest?
47 – The Sacrament of Holy Orders…?
56 – What are monks, nuns, and religious orders?

3) CCC 543, 863, 873, 898-900, 1120, 1127-1128, 1534-1589, 1603-1620, 1721, 1973-1974 (YOUCAT 73, 138-139, 144-145, 205, 248 - 259, 265, 340)

Meditate:
What does it mean when the Church says the priest works in persona Christi? Why is apostolic succession so important for a proper understanding of Holy Orders? What is the difference between a bishop, and priest, and a deacon? Why is celibacy an important gift and discipline? Are all consecrated ministers, like monks and nuns, ordained ministers?

Pray:
O God, you sent your Son, Jesus, to bring eternal life to those who believe. I join him in praying for laborers for your harvest. May your Holy Spirit inspire men and women to continue his mission through your priesthood, diaconate, religious life and lay ministry. May this same Spirit make known your will for my life. Amen.

Imitate:
St. John Vianney

Apply:
Do I pray for my bishop, my priests, and my deacons?

Persona Christ:
This is the Latin meaning; in the person of Christ. It's an important concept in Roman Catholicism. The priest is in it because he's acting as Jesus and God

Holy Orders:
In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, the priest is ordained from vows to lead other Catholics by bringing them the Gospel and other means, as well as, the sacraments. This especially is related to the Eucharist.

Difference:
Priest are the second highest of Holy Orders. They are assistants to Bishops and the Pope. While deacons are servants of the church and the bishops. The deacon like priests and bishops are ordinarily ministers of the sacrament of Baptism and can serve as the witness of a marriage.

Celibacy:
The priest is an alter Christ. They live a celibacy life because they relate to Christ who we know lived a perfect life. Thus, they strive to live a life that reflects our Blessed Lord's life. Moreover, they give us the Eucharist (representing Christ

Ordination:
It's a process where different individuals are set apart from others. It depends on the denomination and religion. The Catholic faith states a nun lives her life in a consecrated state. But, they're not ordained as well as some monks note (they very Seldom are ordained)

1 Persona Christi is Latin as a time when the priest is working in the place of God and Jesus.

2 For Apostolic succession each priest, deacon or minister teaches the same lessons from the bible from the beginning as did Jesus and to the end of the world.

3 The bishop is the first order in the church he guides and teaches also sanctify two other levels are the priest ordained by the bishop and the then we have the deacon he is commissioned to work with the other two an yet he is able to baptize abs preform mirages.

.4 A life of celibacy is a step closer to the life Jesus lived. This would make you a very strong christian

5 Nuns are not ordained while monks are sometimes ordained but most all Priest are.. I know this is wright but why does it seem wrong. thinking for hours why does it seem wrong

- When the Priest does the Eucharist he is doing it at Jesus himself
- Everyone in the order plays a specific role in there positions
- A Bishop is the boss, Priest is between God and man and does the sacraments, while the Deacon helps the Priest and does Baptisms & Marriages
- it allows the Priest total dedicated to Christ

    AUTHOR:
    Caleb Payne

Caleb began his journey with Christ in 1997. He worked as a Protestant missionary for 8 years in China. It was soon after that he was challenged to consider the Catholic Church. After much prayer and study, he realized he had nothing to protest anymore and was received into full communion with Christ and His Church at the Easter Vigil Mass of 2011. For him the joy and peace that comes with receiving Christ in the Eucharist has turned into an insatiable desire to lead others to this same banquet. Caleb is first a husband, a father of three, and works in the Cortland area as a Registered Nurse. Caleb is a member of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, the Angelic Warfare Confraternity, the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, and is an Evangelist for Saint Paul Street Evangelization. He has Certifications in Thomistic/Catholic Philosophy, Catholic Theology, and Catholic Apologetics through the New Saint Thomas Institute. He is also currently in the Formation for Ministry Program of the Syracuse Diocese.
